The annual Child Protection Week police cupcake fix!

The annual Child Protection Week police cupcake fix!

Acting Superintendent Nikki Colfs joined by administration staff and officers from the Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection and Investigation Unit and the Tactical Crime Squad for a feast …. for a cause

As part of Queensland’s Child Protection Week (September 3-9) officers from the Mackay Police Station have been running a unique annual event for several years, raising funds for Bravehearts through the sale of the best cupcakes and cakes that my eyes have ever seen.

The tables were set and ready for business by 9am, I happened to be participating in a meeting which finished at exactly the same time.

At the end of the meeting the only real problem was that there was just the one door to exit out of. Years ago I was involved in a Boxing Day sale in the Brisbane City Mall and was present for the craziness when the doors opened on that day. Leaving this meeting through this one exit door as everyone rushed to get to the cake stall did not feel any different to me!

With in excess of 200 cupcakes and cakes sold and hundreds of dollars raised (as I type there is still more product to sell) it’s fair to say that support for this event is getting stronger every year.

Raising money for Bravehearts (a very worthy cause) and participating in a local Child Protection Week event was really the icing on the cake.  I’m sorry…but in my mind I know some of you expected me to write that.

Each year this event raises money and awareness for a very good cause  and it’s great to be a part of it.
