Drug laboratory located, Mackay

Detectives uncovered an alleged drug laboratory and seized firearms and a taser during the search of a property at Mount Pleasant in Mackay yesterday.

A crime scene was declared at the Tolcher Street unit around 5pm after officers discovered equipment and chemicals allegedly being used in the production of methylamphetamine.

Officers from ILIT (Illicit Laboratory Investigation Team) were deployed to the property to dismantle the set-up today.

A search of a nearby vehicle also allegedly uncovered a sawn off rifle, a pistol, taser, a quantity of dangerous drugs, restricted medication and stolen property.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with three counts each of possessing restricted drugs and possessing dangerous drugs; and one count each of possessing a ‘Category H’ weapon, possessing a ‘Category R’ weapon, possessing explosives (ammunition), possessing a shortened firearm and possessing tainted property.

Investigations into the illicit laboratory are continuing.
